Project: Fashion illustration; Exercise: Everyday fashion

Exercise: Everyday fashion

How can not to have anyone to draw? Is it possible to struggle so much to pick the best subject for this exercise? I used to take a pencil and notebook and sketch my family in everyday situation wearing everyday outfits. This was the best time to study different materials as relaxed family atmosphere helped me to capture everything in natural way.  I have realised my current situation was not easy to be very creative on the fashion matters as my everyday duties as a mum does not help to find plenty of time for contemplating that area of life.  The outfits I wear or my little son wears are usually loose and sports clothes.  I knew I have to go somewhere else to get the inspiration for this exercise...

My work colleague agreed to be a model which is a big help for me.  The NHS nurse blue tops are great in terms of simply straight lines. There is nothing complicated about them. I am going to use the pencil and watercolour for this task.  I want to make a colour statement of this uniform.

This is what I picture in my head.  I did not want to personalise this exercise by paying attention to the face only to the gestures and outfit.  At the moment I am very pleased with the few of my sketches I have made.  They look ok to my. I may be back to this exercise bit later. I may do some more of them in different style using different materials, perhaps more complicated or less?

I do want to take a fashion magazine and draw a few fashion items like a handbag or shoes.  Then I will work on the illustration adding them to the NHS uniform and creating more exciting glamorous NHS outfit.
