My old project from Newcastle College where I was on the first year of computer animation.

Books I used for this task:

"The Animator's Survival Kit",
"Adobe Creative Suite 5 Bible"
"Facial Expressions"

My first short animation.

Short animation about the box changing into a bird.

These are my two last animations simpler but better in terms of mixing and rendering.

Self-reflection after this task.

I have started this exercise form researching on You Tube different type of animations and the ways they were created. I mentioned a few of them at the beginning of my exercise. I did also look in to my old projects I created while I was studding  computer animation at the Newcastle College in 2008. As I was lucky to have "The Animator's Survival Kit" as well as the "Adobe Creative Suite 5 Bible" book I was ready to start making my own new short animation. I have to say it took me longer than I was expecting however I have not been able to do anything similar since I have left the College. It was good fun to create something not static. Although I did look in to the "Facial Expressions" book however as I decided to make a very simple animation without any faces therefore I did not longer needed this book for this task.

I did change the concept of this exercise while I was working on it. My first animation was based on the model of the bird I have made from the box. I was cutting out stage by stage capturing it on the camera. Then I was drawing image by image using the computer program Photoshop. I did struggle to combine all the illustrations into a nice smooth short animation and after a while I decided to change my concept and I went for very simple effect. I wanted to focus this time on creating very smooth animation. I think  my decision was successful and  I am happy with  the final outcome as it  made me fill more confident in making a simple but better looking animation.  Is there anything I would do differently? Not really as I already made decision about the simplicity something I was afraid before that could look not ambitious enough for this course. I know looking back based on my previous experience to make a real good short animation I would need much more time then this exercise was giving me. As I was a student of a similar course in the past I do remember that to create a short animation for the AV Festival took me about a month.

I would like to improve the rendering of my future animation as I know it is crucial to make a good piece of art. Another aspect I would like to focus is creating an animation with the plot.
